ISTANBUL (May 16, 2007)–ZEN Diamond in partnership with National Geographic will present the new National Geographic Jewelry Collection at the JCK Show June 1-5, 2007, at the Sands Expo & Convention Center, Las Vegas, exhibit booth number #43082.
The jewelry company, headquartered in Istanbul, Turkey, has produced two initial collections for National Geographic. The 30-piece “Animals in Nature” collection includes pins and brooches inspired by animals and nature and influenced by National’s Geographic’s 119-year history of wildlife photography and study. The “Animals in Nature” pieces are crafted with colored enamel set with brilliant diamonds, rubies, sapphires, topazes and emeralds. They feature such animals as lion, giraffe, fish, insects, birds and marine life. The collection will expand in the coming months to include earrings, rings and necklaces.
The 20-piece “Ottoman” collection, created by designer Hasan Kale, was inspired by life behind the castle walls of the Topkapi Palace centuries ago. Pieces include diamond and pearl earrings inspired by horse head armor, made using the 16th-century Tombac technique; a necklace inspired by a silk caftan with Çintamani design worn by Sultan Murat lV; and an ebony ring set with diamonds inspired by a light fitting in a room where sultans used to hold parties. Each piece is made in limited numbers.
Beginning September 2007, the National Geographic Jewelry Collection will be available at independent jewelry and specialty stores in Europe, Russia, Turkey and the Middle East. Net proceeds from sales of the jewelry collection will support National Geographic’s vital exploration, conservation, research and education programs.
