NEW YORK (Nov. 10, 2010)—National Geographic has hired Jenifer Berman as vice president of marketing for the Global Media advertising and marketing group. She will be responsible for creating and executing a brand-first marketing strategy that strengthens National Geographic’s position in the marketplace and fully utilizes the Society’s many assets for its various marketing partners.

Berman has over 20 years’ experience in media and marketing, most recently as executive director of creative services for The New Yorker, where she ran day-to-day integrated marketing operations, developed brand positioning strategies and materials, and managed numerous events, including The New Yorker Festival, as well as the development of new advertising revenue streams from tablet editions, apps and custom publishing.
Prior to her role at The New Yorker, Berman worked in the Conde Nast marketing departments of GQ and Vanity Fair. She also has editorial experience as senior editor at BOMB magazine and freelance writing experience as a book and film reviewer for such publications as The New York Times Book Review, Los Angeles Times and Bookforum.
Berman is on the board of directors of Housing Works Bookstore Café. She provides marketing and consulting services to Housing Works and its Soho, N.Y.-based bookstore; is instrumental in supporting its annual reading series; and helped develop Housing Works’ monthly music series, “Live From Home.” Housing Works, a nonprofit, is New York’s leading provider of services and advocacy to homeless individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
A native of Washington, D.C., and a graduate of the University of Michigan, Berman currently resides in Brooklyn, N.Y.
