ANDORRA (April 18, 2011)—A new and exciting way to explore the planet arrived in Andorra on April 15, when National Geographic opened a dynamic new shop-in-shop in Pyrénées Department Store in the heart of Andorra’s most elite shopping district. Drawing on National Geographic’s 123-year heritage of exploration and education, National Geographic’s new store brings together its products and services in a constantly evolving, culturally inspired setting.
More than a traditional retail environment, the new National Geographic Andorra Store features state-of-the-art design dedicated to stimulating, educating and inspiring visitors to celebrate global cultures. The store is located on the ground floor and covers up to 200 square meters (1,800 square feet).
The shop-in-shop offers a wide selection of National Geographic products, such as its award-winning magazines, books and DVDs, in addition to newly created merchandise and handcrafted items made by global artisans and unique to Andorra. Locally sourced collectables from all over the world make up a portion of these items and include original artifacts and tools found in indigenous tribes. Custom jewellery and hand-stitched leather bags from Kenya are among the authentic and sustainable items on offer. Visitors can also peruse National Geographic’s travel and cartographic library and try on apparel and accessories for their upcoming adventures.
Key product lines in the Andorra Store include apparel, footwear, eyewear, stationery, maps, home furnishings and a wide selection of children’s goods.
The Store also offers items designed for the rigours of adventures and exploration, from casual travel gear to expedition-quality apparel, including hi-tech waterproof bags and innovative, multi-layered apparel suitable for diverse climates and activities.
Eclectic furniture and home décor items are featured in displays and are available for sale. Sample items include a variety of pieces constructed of wood reclaimed from old furniture, buildings, bridges and railways.
Drawing from its mission to inspire people to care about the planet, National Geographic has built the Andorra Store with eco-friendly design elements, and Pyrénées Department Store plans to incorporate additional sustainable practices in its daily operations.
National Geographic’s net proceeds support the Society’s exploration, conservation, research and education programs.
