PALMA, Majorca (17 June, 2011)—On Friday, June 17, National Geographic will open its newest retail store at 2, Avenida Jaime III, in the heart of Palma’s preeminent shopping district, offering a new and exciting way to explore the planet.
More than a traditional retail environment, the National Geographic Palma store, set across 120 square meters (1,080 square feet), features state-of-the-art design and compelling visual displays that educate visitors and inspire them to celebrate global cultures.
Visitors can peruse National Geographic’s travel and cartography library, book National Geographic Expeditions along with trips offered by Barceló Viajes, and find apparel and accessories for their upcoming adventures.
The store will offer a wide selection of National Geographic products featuring its award-winning magazines, books and DVDs, in addition to newly created products and handcrafted items made by global artisans. Locally sourced collectables from the world make up a portion of these items and include original artifacts and tools found in indigenous tribes. Custom jewellery and hand-stitched bags from Kenya are among the authentic and sustainable items that will be on offer.
Key product lines in the store will include apparel, travel accessories, travel guides, books and maps, as well as a full-service travel agency.
The store will also offer items designed for the rigors of adventures and exploration, from casual travel gear to expedition-quality apparel, including hi-tech waterproof bags and innovative, multi-layered clothing suitable for diverse climates and activities.
Drawing from its mission to inspire people to care about the planet, National Geographic has built its store with eco-friendly design elements and plans to incorporate additional sustainable practices in the store’s daily operations.
National Geographic’s net proceeds support the Society’s exploration, conservation, research and education programs.
