SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 15, 2013  — Macerich, the third largest retail real estate investment trust in the United States, is proud to announce a partnership with National Geographic Kids to provide fun and educational materials and activities for Kids Club programs at more than 40 shopping centers around the country.

Kids Club programs have been an important part of the experience at Macerich malls for more than a decade. In partnering with National Geographic Kids, the already engaging Kids Clubs will now incorporate activities about everything from oceans and animals to energy and outer space. Beginning this month, the activity kits — full of photos, Weird but True facts, coloring pages and games — will be available both online and in-mall throughout the Macerich portfolio.  The rotating content will be experienced at the mall as well as extended at home on the Macerich virtual learning website.

The program’s launch will celebrate the winter season and will highlight polar bears, with each center hosting a “Polar Party.” In early spring, centers will dig deep with dinosaurs. Macerich’s program will give kids and families more opportunities to learn, discover and engage. The Kids Clubs experience will be deepened and broadened with the rich, educational content provided by National Geographic Kids.

“Special experiences are an important part of what we offer our communities, and our new, trusted partner, National Geographic Kids, heightens the inspiration quotient for even our youngest guests and their families,” said Ken Volk, Chief Marketing Officer for Macerich. “This outstanding and well-recognized brand is a terrific fit for our Kids Club and for the collection of top retail brands our shoppers look for when they come to Macerich centers across the country.”

“National Geographic Kids is all about getting kids excited about the world around them, and this partnership is another fantastic way to reach kids with our awe-inspiring photography, fascinating Weird but True trivia, and fun pictures and stories of animals,” said Melina Bellows, executive vice president and chief creative officer of National Geographic Books, Kids and Family. “This new partnership helps us reach children and families where they already spend lots of time — their favorite malls.”
