WASHINGTON (March 31, 2015)—National Geographic, one of the world’s largest nonprofit scientific and educational organizations, has selected British product designer IF as an international giftware licensee under its National Geographic brand for bookmarks, playing cards and other book-related gifts.
Under this multiyear agreement, National Geographic and IF have teamed up to produce a line of 3D bookmarks and picture playing cards that showcase National Geographic’s vast photographic archives. The high-quality design of these cards was recognized by the judges from the United Kingdom’s Giftware Association.
The National Geographic 52 Picture Playing Cards are available in five categories: “Amazing Animals,” “Brilliant Birds,” “Spectacular Sea Life,” “Extraordinary Earth” and “Magnificent Mankind.” The line was recently lauded as “highly commended” at the U.K. Gift of the Year Awards in the Commemorative and Collectable category.
The National Geographic Kids Weird But True! Playing Cards feature colorful graphics and wacky, wild and mind-bending facts about animals, food, science, outer space, geography and weather from National Geographic Kids’ popular series of Weird But True! publications.
National Geographic 3D Bookmarks showcase 24 spectacular images of nature and wildlife, scenic landscapes, urban landmarks, underwater marine life, space and exploration in eye-catching lenticular.
Products are available for shipping now and available at retail this spring in North America and internationally.
“National Geographic has a vast catalogue of stunning imagery that provides a perfect backdrop for playing cards, bookmarks and collectables,” said Krista Newberry, National Geographic’s senior vice president, licensing, for North America. “The Weird but True! set offers fun trivia for kids and family, while the picture playing cards and 3D bookmarks are highly collectable for their compelling visuals. We’re excited to work with IF, a principal leader in the gift industry, to share our rich photographic archives with consumers.”
“IF is very pleased to partner with National Geographic as it is a brand and an organization that appeals to people who enjoy travel, reading and education. Our customers also share these interests, and IF is proud to be supporting National Geographic’s charitable efforts,” said John Calvert, CEO of IF.
National Geographic’s net proceeds from the sale of these products will support vital exploration, conservation, research and education programs.
