V-me TELEVISION NETWORK PRESENTS 'WILD CHRONICLES'
Weekly, Half-Hour Magazine-Style TV Series to be Broadcast in Spanish this Spring
WASHINGTON (April 4, 2007--National Geographic announced today that the first season of the public television series "Wild Chronicles" is airing in Spanish this spring on the newly launched V-me television network, bringing the program to bilingual and Spanish-language-dominant U.S. Latinos in major Hispanic markets. "Wild Chronicles" connects viewers to the pulse of the planet by offering rare access and in-depth reporting on the state of the natural world through National Geographic-sponsored researchers and explorers in the field.
"Wild Chronicles" is available in Spanish through a partnership between the National Geographic Society and V-me Media Inc. "The National Geographic Society recognizes the importance of creating and providing high-quality science programming to inspire people to care about the planet," noted National Geographic's Mark Bauman, executive producer of the series. "We're excited to make the award-winning series available to the growing Spanish-speaking community here in the United States." "V-me is committed to presenting the world's best natural history programming, and National Geographic is synonymous with excellence in the genre," said Guillermo Sierra, chief content officer, senior vice president, V-me Media Inc. "'Wild Chronicles,' with its fast-paced, lively format, perfectly supports V-me's mission to entertain while informing the audience."
Every week "Wild Chronicles" tells the story of our planet from the vantage of those who have traversed its passageways, probed its scientific mysteries and advocated for its protection. The series has unique access to National Geographic Mission Programs, which supports pioneering research and expeditions through programs such as the Conservation Trust, Expeditions Council and the National Geographic Explorers-in-Residence, which continue to be a major source of stories for the series. National Geographic Mission Programs enables a one-of-a-kind connection to scientists, researchers and travelers in the wild, opening a window to an otherwise inaccessible world that viewers want to see.
Underwritten by National Geographic Mission Programs in collaboration with Lindblad Expeditions, the half-hour, magazine-style show is hosted by Boyd Matson, long-time host of the critically acclaimed National Geographic Explorer series. Award winners Matson and Bauman combine decades of field experience to generate a sophisticated world view that goes beyond the typical nature program.
The series covers the work of a broad alliance of scientists, adventurers, conservationists and others who are working to study, protect and preserve the planet.
"Wild Chronicles" presents 42 episodes this season, each containing four segments that cover news from nature, scientific revelations, human exploration and adventure, with original reports from the field as well as updates on exciting, recent discoveries. National Geographic's trademark Crittercam® units -- specialized video cameras that can be mounted on the backs of creatures such as lions, great white sharks and grizzly bears -- dispatch an animal's-eye view of life. The series is presented in English on local public television stations by WLIW New York, a leading producer of fundraising programming for PBS and the fourth most-watched public television station in the United States.
