WASHINGTON (May 16, 2011)—National Geographic’s Kids Entertainment and Mercury Filmworks’ “Toot & Puddle” preschool animated series has won a Daytime Emmy® Award recognizing Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation. It also has been nominated for an Emmy® for Outstanding Directing in an Animated Program.
“‘Toot & Puddle’ captures National Geographic’s mission to inspire kids to explore their world with two fun-loving piglets that are true adventurers at heart,” said David Beal, president, National Geographic Entertainment. “This award is a testament to National Geographic’s strength in the children’s television space — a space we look forward to growing.”
Mercury Filmworks’ Art Director “Diamond” Dave Merritt of Background Design took home an Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation Award for the “Toot & Puddle” series, a Mercury Filmworks production in partnership with NGKE. The programs, based on the acclaimed picture books “Toot & Puddle,” by kids author Holly Hobbie, introduce two adventurous pigs — Toot the world traveler and Puddle the backyard explorer — as they go on exciting journeys near and far. Merritt was selected as a category winner by a juried panel of peer judges.
National Geographic’s “Toot & Puddle” team, led by Mercury Filmworks Director Christian Larocque, also has been nominated for an Emmy® for Outstanding Directing in an Animated Program. The award ceremony will be broadcast live from Las Vegas on Sunday, June 19, 2011, over the CBS Television Network. The 38th Annual Daytime Emmy® Awards is a presentation of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in cooperation with the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
